Matthew 14:30-31 – But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
In this text we see a picture of Peter where periodically we find ourselves in life, beginning to sink and digress. I must note that prior to this moment, however, was one of the greatest moment ever recorded in the Bible, Peter, was actually, literally walking on the water. He was doing something that was naturally impossible to do. Water is a liquid and not meant to hold up that which is not buoyant. The laws of nature, by default, cause objects that are not meant to float, to sink. And so, here it is, Peter, along with
Jesus, walking on the water. That was a Word for somebody right there, as long as you have Jesus, you can indeed walk on the water! You can launch out into the deep and do the impossible! As Peter was progressing on the water the Bible says that when he saw the wind boisterous or violent, he became afraid. Sometimes the winds of life can halt us or hinder us from our progression, and even cause us to fear. Was it the winds that caused him to begin to sink or the fear? I submit that neither should have moved him. The winds had been blowing prior to him getting out of the boat, so that should not have prevented him from continuing. For someone, what has tried to keep you from advancing couldn’t stop you before, so don’t let that stop you now! Keep walking! Here’s the thing that caused him to begin to sink, he was afraid. He stepped out on faith but began to sink in fear. As he was sinking, he cried out, Lord, save me. Here’s the key, although he began to sink, neither should have moved him.
Here’s the key, although he began to sink, he did not sink. Why? Because He had the Lord with Him. Isn’t it a wonderful thing to know that even when we’re fearful, if we have the faith to cry out to the Lord, He can save us. Peter did not sink because He had the mind to call on the Savior and the Lord saved him. In life, we quite often find ourselves sinking with difficulties, diseases, depressions and debilitations but we have a Savior that will stretch forth His hand to catch us and to save us. For somebody today, things may be hard and life may be challenging, but as long as Jesus is near, we won’t sink. We will indeed survive sinking situations.
May this Word find you blessed!
